Hi Sven,

the Graylog Collector will automatically generate a new ID if there's none 
available in the file specified by collector-id (see 
https://github.com/Graylog2/collector/blob/0.4.2/config/collector.conf.example#L9-L14
).

Inactive Graylog Collectors are automatically removed from Graylog's 
database after a certain time (see 
https://github.com/Graylog2/graylog2-server/blob/1.3.4/misc/graylog2.conf#L402-L406
).
