The closest I got to the behaviour described by you is the following:

If I disable javascript in the page the script runs on, then the
following error is being reported in the javascript console:

Error: A parameter or an operation is not supported by the underlying object
Source file: file:///<path_to_my_profile>/gm_scripts/_foo/_foo.user.js
Line: 10

The line in question is the same as yours.  Maybe you should enable javascript?
