I've been using the script <a href="http://userscripts.org/scripts/ show/49134">Google Always Show Search Options</a> for a while, and I may have found a better method to accomplish the same task. The above script appends &tbo=1 to the end of the URL of Google search result pages, thus showing the options sidebar.
But adding "tbo" to the class of the body tag does the same thing without causing URL issues. However, I lack the Javascript experience to code this script or even know whether or not it work at all.
