I used to use git for this. (I'm no longer doing it because I lost my repository during a data migration from the old to the new laptop, and I am too lazy to start over again...). I would maintain a stable and a dev branch, and would Ipswich between then with just a check out command. There was something tricky to watch out for wrt config.xml, I can't remember the details. All in all it was very convenient, it allowed to have multiple sets of scripts without the need of having to switch Firefox profiles.
