If you want a script to be able to close a tab, you need change the
preference "dom.allow_scripts_to_close_windows" from false to true.
Enter "about:config" into the location bar to access the preferences.

Hi!
I really like GreaseMonkey and used it for a while for fun and to
improve my surfing experience.
First of all, I wish to thank you for imaginating, coding, and sharing
this wonderful software.
Today I noticed that the funcion window.close() is ignored by default
from firefox, is there a chance to add a GM_CloseWindow() function
that does exactly the same thing of window.close() but using GM
"superprivileges"?
Bye
Gabriele
