Dear All
I fully endorse the article Common Thrust Areas  for Growth in Tourism posted
by Chandresh Singh Krishna from India.

My organization Countrystyle International/Countrystyle Community Tourism
Network in association with the International Institute for Peace through
Tourism (IIPT) Caribbean chapter,  has developed over the past 35 years the
Countrystyle Community Tourism Village programme which involves 48 villages in
Jamaica and we are now planning to develop a two year programme for 150
communities islandwide and will also develop a programme for the Caribbean
region.

Our Community Tourism programme has been recognized internationally when we
were included as one of the 100 organizations for the Islands Magazine Blue
List Responsible Tourism Award in 2008 and in 2009 as one of the 20
organizations for Leadership in Responsible Tourism. I have also received the
Best Personal Contribution Award from
Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Award together with Jane Ashton - TUI
Travel UK at World Travel Market London November 2008.

Anyone interested in getting further information on our village tourism
programme, please feel free to contact me.  Our Consultant team is prepared is
available to give support to any organization throughout the world.

Congratulations Chandresh on an excellent article! We are planning to share
this with the delegates at the Caribbean Regional Heritage Tourism Conference

Common Thrust areas for Growth of Tourism

Following thrust areas need immediate intervention by competent
authorities along with stakeholders. Growth of tourism worldwide will
be determined ultimately on extent of our success in Planning and
executing a definite line of action in these core areas.

Thrust Areas

1. Price competitiveness in Accommodation, Chartered Coaches / Cars, Monument
fees

Apart from all shortcomings, India is considered as one of the most
expensive destinations of the world. Hotel tariffs for star category is
at par or sometimes even more then Hotels located in developed country.

3. Safety measures for tourists

There is need to form certain legal guidelines of personal, economical and
environmental safety and security of tourists.

4. HRD Development for running industry smoothly

5. Responsible tourism

6. Improving Destination’s image as a tourist destination

7. Transparency

8. Safety and freedom of tourists – A hassle free environment

9. Sustainability - Environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable, in
an Integrated manner

10 Crises Management – Any natural calamity or human created turbulence
Like terrorism effects tourism very substantially and immediately

11. Responsible tourism practices – Corporate Responsibility in
Tourism, Development of Non-profit sector in tourism to integrate all
stakeholders

Growing number of tourists now prefer to be at destinations, where they
visit can benefit the community visited directly and substaitially.

12. Tourism Research - To evaluate industry through very competent
individuals and Organization, who have a global distinction in
collecting and analyzing, visitor Data base, tourist behaviour,
ananlysis of tourist spendings, formulating strategy to be able of
forcast tourist demands in future in each segment.

13. Real Experience – Its increasing demand from tourists for real
experience of Destinations visited. Once tourist recognize that a
particular Restaurant, Shop or activity is designed specially for
tourists only, there enthusiasm Goes down and they feel being trapped.
It adversely affects satisfaction level of tourist and accounts for a
poor image of destination.
