Dear Sir / Madam, 

Greetings from SICHREM and the Institute of Human Rights Education of
People's Watch – Tamil Nadu!

We are glad to inform you that SICHREM and the Institute of Human
Rights Education of People's Watch – Tamil Nadu are jointly organising
a "Work Shop on Human Rights for Media Professionals (Print &
Electronic)" for young journalists in Kerala state.

SICHREM – South India Cell for Human Rights Education and Monitoring
is an organisation working towards creating a fearless society where
the rights of the last and least will be respected without any kind of
bias. Towards this end, SICHREM hopes to make human Rights a house
hold concept by adopting a proactive stance on the restoration of
rights and by advocating a rights-based value system. SICHREM has been
offering training programmes on Human Rights for various groups as
part of its efforts in Human Rights Education.

People's Watch – Tamilnadu is an organization, which has been working
towards the protection and promotion of human rights since 1995.
Through the Institute of Human Rights Education (IHRE), training
programmes on human rights are conducted to reach out to as many
sections of civil society. Efforts are made to reach out to as many
sections of civil society as possible through various training
programs.  This programme is one such initiative.

The aim of this program is to provide an orientation to media persons
in the field of human rights.  This programme has been conceived with
the objective of imparting knowledge on the prevailing standards of
human rights as well as to build amongst the media persons a human
rights perspective.

The program will be held on 30th and 31st August 2005 at LOYOLA
EXTENSION SERVICES,    LOYOLA COLLEGE CAMPUS,    SREEKARIYAM P.O,
THIRUVANANTAPURAM-17, Phone: 0471-2595097. It is a two days
residential programme which will begin at 9.30 am on 30th and will be
concluded by 5.pm on 31st. Boarding and lodging for these two days
will be provided and one way travel expenses by second class train/
non luxury bus will be reimbursed on furnishing of tickets.

The workshop will cover topics such as definition, Concepts and
historical analysis of Human Rights movement; International laws and
mechanisms for protection and promotion of  Human Rights;
Constitutional provisions and National Mechanisms; Rights of women,
Children and Dalits etc..
