Let me introduce myself first I am Mukundan C Menon's wife Rema R
As I am well aware that you must have heard of the sad demise of my husband
I would like to say that since for almost 2 months I was away at
hospitals and could not even check the e-mails in Mukundan's inbox as
he often delegated me to do in his absence -- therefore first of all I
am sorry for not having informed you of his sudden illness
Mukundan had been in Calicut involved in the project to launch a new
Malayalam daily THEJAS when on October 19th 2005 he suffered a massive
heart attack and was hospitalized at MIMS hospital in Calicut. He
stayed in coma with ventilator support for weeks and later weaned from
the ventilator and had some neurological reflexes restored but never
regained full conciousness
The end came about a month and a half later on 12th December 2005 at
KIMS hospital in Trivandrm when he encountered breathing problems
resulting in cardiac arrest
As someone who knew the commitment that my husband had for the cause of
Human Rights I hereby implore all of you -- friends and organizations
who were associated with him to continue to keep in contact with CHRO
through e-mails - newsletters communications etc so that CHRO [
Confederation Of Human Rights could continue to be in rapport with you
-- on his behalf I and other representatives of his organization CHRO
will try to re-establish the contact [although not at the level he
could have done with you] but to keep a working network and
relationship in our endeavour
