Greetings from Kerala Dalit Panthers!
We are happy to announce that KDP is organizing its 16th State conference at Thiruvalla, Kerala, during 27 to 30 (Tuesday to Friday) December 2005. We take this opportunity to invite you to this conference as your presence would definitely grace and enrich the occasion and would also give us the much needed support to carry on our efforts at Empowering Dalits of Kerala. This conference will be a turning point in the arena of power politics of Kerala since it is scheduled to pronounce the 'Dalit Bahujan Political Alternative', its policies and programs with a vision to restructure the democratic institutions of the state.
The Kerala Dalit Panther Movement, which sprang up from the great revolutionary tradition of Mahatma Ayyankali in association with the democratic revolutionary ideology of Babasaheb Ambedkar, is now completing its 20th year of relentless struggles for Human Rights and Dignity of Dalits and Bahujans. KDP has at present 25,000 cadres spreading out in 550 units in Kerala. The presence of KDP is found in almost all the districts of Kerala and 12 district committees have been constituted. However, four district committees of the southern part of Kerala are much stronger than other district entities. We have a strong mass base with two lakhs followers.
The strategy of KDP that followed the celebrated intellectual dynamism coupled with the Ambedkarite praxiological approach eventually resulted in a very strong mass base at grass root level leading to the attainment of a pivotal place in the history of social movements of modern Kerala, particularly that of dalit and subaltern movements. The intellectual and ideological clarity with its grass root base have gradually brought the KDP into the mainstream process.
'POWER DEVELOPMENT AND FREEDOM'
Theme of the proposed Conference is 'POWER DEVELOPMENT AND FREEDOM'. Along with the ongoing programmes for Dalit Development and its interventions at various levels to protect the Human Rights of Dalit and Bahujans, KDP is planning to enter into a spectrum of large scale political interventions to ensure proportional representation in governance and power centres of the state with genuine community participation.To alter the traditional Power Centres, New Power is needed and this New Power has to be articulated to pave the way for emancipating the downtrodden Dalit Bahujans of the nation. Dalits of the state has to be more enlightened to come together and consolidate the much available forces to materialize the socio-political aspirations of the Dalits. This political articulation is to be rallied with the national Dalit-Bahujan consolidation.
The conference will include various sessions on Dalit unity, Dalit centred development, Dalit cultural alternative etc. Eminent Dalit intellectuals will be presenting papers on various topics. Closing the event, there will be a mass procession and public meeting along with colourful cultural programmes. 25 000 people are expected to take part in the rally.
