Bush Out of Iraq!
Protest Demonstration against US Occupation of Iraq
Three years back on March 20, the US under George Bush launched an illegal and brutal war
against Iraq on the false pretext of eliminating (non-existent) WMD in Iraq. In the course of the campaign of calumny, the ludicrous charge of tie-up between Saddam Hussain and Al Qaeda also got added. When both these charges fell flat on their faces, the 'mission' of 'installing' 'Democracy' with a capital 'D' was proffered as the main argument justifying the illegal aggression and occupation.
Three years thence, about an estimated two and a half thousand US and allied troops have lost lives at the service of their masters out to establish a Global Empire by establishing a stranglehold over the sources of the most vital industrial fuel in today's world
i.e. oil. The casualties on the Iraqi side, euphemistically called 'collateral damages', are just not properly counted. The credible estimates put that figure at around one and a half lakh. Yet there is just not no sign of WMD or Al Qaeda connections, democracy also remains as elusive. Rather the whole nation is thoroughly destabilized and up in arms against the US, and allied, occupiers and the regime installed by them.
Far from being chastened by its misadventure in Iraq, the Bush administration has now embarked upon another aggressive campaign against the neighbouring Iran. Quite unfortunately the government of India is becoming a willing accomplice of the hyperpower in its nefarious game.
In response to and in solidarity with the anti-war movement all the world over, the Peace-Mumbai, an umbrella organization based in Mumbai, hereby issues a call to the people of Mumbai to observe March 18 as Anti-War Day as the whole world is doing. It has also taken up a novel programme of releasing a large number of balloons, with anti-war messages inscribed, at the Gateway of India on that day at 5 00 PM. It calls upon the peace-loving people of Mumbai to join the programme to express their anger against the illegal occupation and in solidarity with the people of Iraq fighting the occupation.
