EUROPEAN-WIDE ACTION WEEK AGAINST RACISM
>From the 18th till the 26th of March the Human Rights Working Group of AEGEE is joining the European-Wide Action Week Against Racism co-ordinated by UNITED for Intercultural Action.
21st March was declared as the International Day for the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination by the General Assembly of the United Nations as a reaction to the murder of 70 anti-apartheid demonstrators in Sharpeville, South Africa, in 1960. The HRWG would like to observe this Day by taking part in this Action Week.
Why all this?
Racism cannot be justified or tolerated. Discrimination on all grounds is still affecting many aspect of everyday life and can be easily spotted but it can be also lie hidden. Through this week hundreds of different activities take place as an information and action campaign goes along in Europe to increase and raise awareness about racism in general.
The HRWG is an independent working group within AEGEE, whose main activities are spreading information and organising and supporting projects within AEGEE on the subject of Human Rights. The HRWG�s Area of Focus cover Immigration, Racism, Disability, Crimes against humanity, Mutual Tolerance and Understanding and more.
The HRWG represents the conscience of AEGEE.
