FROM PAKISTAN TO INDIA WITH LOVE
"A Golden Bridge
of Friendship"
After successfully delivering an enormous gift of love from the children of
India to the children of Pakistan
, the volunteers at FriendsWithoutBorders.org will be returning to India
-- carrying with them the first batch of letters headed in the other direction.
This Monday, April 10th, at 2pm
, the
FriendsWithoutBorders.org team will return again to Wagah Border, this time laying down "The Golden
Bridge of Friendship" -- a long strip of yellow tarpaulin measuring 1008 ft. by 12ft. -- that will stretch from
Pakistan to India
.
This enormous yellow strip is part of "The World's Largest Love Letter" and was signed with messages of friendship by almost 5000 Pakistani students at the large April 4th event at Gaddafi Stadium in
Lahore.
The FriendsWithoutBorders.org
team will walk down this gigantic 'golden carpet' in a triumphant
celebration of a successful first exchange of letters between the kids
of both countries.
"This is just beginning," said John Silliphant. "The infrastructure is now in place to keep this movement expanding. As more schools throughout both countries
participate, the world will gradually become a safer and friendlier home. Every letter brings us closer."
In just two weeks, large volunteer networks have begun to take shape in
Pakistan, with a goal to collect one lakh (one hundred thousand) letters for this project in the next couple months.
Rabia Ramzan
says, "The volunteers in Pakistan are very excited to be working for such a big cause
. It's unique to be working at the root level to remove the tensions between these two neighboring countries."
Aamir Rafique
says, "The children of Pakistan
are equally excited at the prospect of friendship with Indian children.
With a little help from us, the adults, we can make it happen in both
countries. As we all say –it just might work."
