ALL OVER THE PLACE: Policemen posted in large numbers at Kandadevi in Sivaganga district.
Sivaganga: Unprecedented security arrangements have been made at Kandadevi and Devakottai in view of the Sri Swarnamurtheshwarar Temple car festival scheduled for Sunday. Nearly 3,500 policemen have been mobilised from various districts for the task. The force includes seven SPs, 15 ADSPs, 27 DSPs, 87 inspectors, 200 sub-inspectors, 1,200 special policemen and 2,000 district policemen, besides the presence of an ADGP, an IG and a DIG.
"I am confident that the car festival will be a smooth affair, as we have taken some new measures based on experience of the previous years," said S. Nallasivam, Superintendent of Police.
Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code has been promulgated in the Devakottai sub-division to prevent intrusion of `outsiders' into Kandadevi. "Official machinery is fully geared to face any eventuality," said Sivaganga Collector M.A. Siddique, who is camping at Kandadevi.
