A 50-five-year-old man collapsed during interrogation at the Panniyanakara police station on Monday. Police claimed that Razak -- held in connection with mobile phone theft - died on arrival at the Beach Hospital but the doctors said he died whereas doctors at the hospital said he was brought dead.

Following the incident, North Zone Deputy Inspector General of Police suspended Panniyanakara police station Sub-Inspector MD Sunil Kumar. However, sources at the hospital, said there were no visible marks of police excess on Razak's body.

The police said the 50-year-old mobile theft suspect died after preliminary medical care at Beach Hospital. According to the police, the deceased had shown signs of physical breakdown while being questioned.

Police said Razak arrived at the station at 10.00 am and by 11.00 am he complained of chest pain. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, they added. However what raises further doubts is that it took the police five hours to inform Razak's relatives about his death.
