SHOs to be held responsible for custodial deaths

Thiruvananthapuram: The State Government is planning to amend the Kerala Police Act to make Station House Officers (SHOs) of the police stations responsible for custodial deaths, Minister for Home Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said.
Replying to queries at an interactive session organised by Kerala Tourism in the capital on Tuesday, the Home Minister said the Government was also thinking of ordering an inquiry by a District Judge in the event of a custodial death in the State.
Mr. Balakrishnan said discussions had already been held in this regard.
