Programmes on notions of modernity, development paradigm and displacement - August 4-6 (Nandan – II, Kolkata.) Dear friend, We think you understand that the perception of bourgeoisie modernity is generally associated with the notions of development progress etc. it can be said that such notions are conceptualized in a way as if those can definitely ensure social welfare and betterment for the people. As we know the idea of nation state or welfare state is a modern emergence. such system associate some promises along with there functioning that peoples betterment can be provided through the different development projects that the state carry out. It seems that it is more or less a linear narrative of advancement towards some definite directions. Now a days from a neo-liberal and global perspective the idea or the dream of development has taken a gigantic shape for us (mainly the developing country people) to keep pace with technological advancement of the first world countries. But surpringly we have witnessed the "commoners" of such developing nations are very often resisting different development projects with there utmost force. This can be seen in the spaces like Latin America, Africa many places in the first world countries and of course in the several parts of our country. The growing tension between the two notions (1) development (2) displacement – have very often taken the central position of our attention. In this context "Drishya" a kolkata based film appreciation and research group and "INSAF" are initiating a there day long program of film screening seminar, theatrical performance and installation on the notions of modernity development paradigm and displacement during August 4-6 at Nandan – II, Kolkata. We expect your and whole hearted cooperation as a gesture of solidarity towards such "amateurish" effort.
