The Kerala High Court may not assign a sitting judge to probe the alleged custody deaths in the State since the LDF came into power. The court has given indication to this effect while reserving orders on a petition seeking CBI inquiry into the custody deaths. The Government had announced recently that a sitting judge would inquire into the cases and that it would ask the HC to spare a sitting judge for the task.

A Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice VK Bali and Justice M Ramachandran reserved orders on Monday on a petition filed by A Sabir of Thiruvananthapuram seeking a CBI inquiry into the deaths and compensation to the victims' kin. The Bench said the decision to provide the services of a sitting judge or not would be decided later. However, the Bench said the services of district sessions judge could be provided.
