Urban Research Centre (URC) is a registered society, a non-profit making organization carrying out policy and action research on urban areas. URC is presently being engaged in in an action planning project in Mangalore and Udupi in Coastal Karnataka. URC is working in Mangalore and Udupi towns focusing on ward based participatory planning bridging local groups and municipal councils.
URC is organizing an Inter City Regional Inter City Regional Workshop on 'Citizens' participation in Urban Development', 3-4 October 2006, at Cardinal Parecattil Memorial Renewal Centre, Azad Road, Kaloor, Cochin – 682 017, Kerala.

The purpose of the training workshop is to provide a platform for people and citizen associations to share the urban development issues; understand the impacts of urban development projects funded by International Financial Institutions (IFIs) specifically the Asian Development Bank (ADB); learn the experiences of ADB funded projects in Karnataka, India and Asia-Pacific. The training workshop also aims at educating the participants in asserting citizen participation in urban development projects and creating linkages with like-minded citizen organizations across Kerala and Karnataka.
The training workshop is being organized in association with Focus on the Global South, India; Indian Solidarity Committee for Democracy, Freedom and Humanrights (INSOCO), Cochin, Global Alternate Information Applications (GAIA) and other like-minded organizations from Kerala.
URC invites you to this training workshop, as you have been actively involved and concerned in the pro-people development activities of your city. As URC is making all efforts to raise resources to reimburse the travel expenses of participants, we welcome if you can manage covering travel expenses yourself. URC will make arrangements for boarding and lodging. Please find the tentative programme schedule.
