One more dies in custody, 3 policemen suspended
KOCHI: A person who was taken into custody by the police on charge of theft died while being taken to the court here on Saturday.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Ernakulam Range, K. Padmakumar suspended three policemen of Kunnathunadu police station in this connection.
Saju, 52, was taken into custody on Friday evening following complaints of theft from the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited office. The police recovered the stolen property from the accused.
Police officials said the accused had consumed liquor before he was taken into custody. He collapsed while being taken to the court. However, the policemen in charge did not take him to the hospital.
Those suspended were Assistant Sub Inspector Hariharakumar, and Head Constables Abraham and Kochaniyan. They were suspended on the basis of a report filed by P. Vijayan, City Police Commissioner, who is in charge of Ernakulam Rural.
