A little boy in Punjab was thrashed mercilessly by his teacher. Ten-year-old Arashdeep Singh is in shock.
The fifth standard student of Mamta Niketan Convent School at Tarn Taran was allegedly beaten up on Saturday by his teacher for not wearing his uniform properly and had shoes without laces.
According to the boy, the teacher beat him up with a wooden duster and a stick. He was so scared that he did not even tell his parents about it. They came to know only when they saw his bruised body.
"My teacher beat up me because I was wearing shoes without laces," said Arashdeep.
School authorities, however, deny the incident and say Arashdeep was expelled from the school two months ago for indiscipline but was allowed to stay on only after his parents gave in writing that he would mend his ways.
"Few days back I rusticated the student due to indiscipline and we never beat up the student," said Perveen Parshad, the school's principal.
On a complaint by Arshdeep's parents Taran Tarn Police have registered a case against the school.
"A case has been registered under section 323 and 324 against the teacher," said Tilak Raj, SHO, Tarn Taran Police station.
Incidents of teachers beating up children in rural areas of Punjab are unfortunately very common.
But while Arashdeep's wounds will take a few days to heal, the scars of this incident will remain with him for a long time.
