*"Ministers who corrected me will soon correct themselves" * ------------------------------ *No change in Kerala stand on SNC-Lavalin issue * *"SNC-Lavalin has cheated the State" * ------------------------------ THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan said here on Wednesday that the Ministers who had "corrected" him on the Asian Development Bank (ADB) loan issue would soon correct themselves. He was responding to a question from journalists on the statement by Minister for Local Self-Government Paloli Mohammed Kutty, to a newspaper, refuting his contention that the State Government had signed the deal for the ADB loan for Kerala Sustainable Urban Development Programme without the approval of the Cabinet. Asked about Finance Minister T. M. Thomas Isaac's statement that the agreement signed by the ADB and the State Government on December 8 in New Delhi had no conditions against the interests of the State, the Chief Minister said all aspects of the issue were being closely examined. Mr. Achuthanandan said his views on the SNC-Lavalin issue were on record. The Canadian company SNC-Lavalin had promised the State a grant of Rs. 98.3crore as part of the contract given by the Kerala State Electricity Board for executing the renovation and modernisation of the hydel projects at Pallivasal, Shengulam and Panniar. The company actually gave the State only Rs. 8.98 crore of this promised amount, meant for setting up the Malabar Cancer Centre at Thalasserry. "The company has cheated Kerala. During the tenure of the UDF Government, I had demanded in the Assembly that the company be blacklisted," he said. ___________________________________________________ Vidya Rangan Globalisation Impacts and Tourism Programme EQUATIONS #415, 2nd C-cross, 4th main OMBR Layout, Banaswadi Bangalore 560043 Telephone: +91-80-25457607/25457659 Fax: +91-80-25457665 E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] URL: www.equitabletourism.org --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ greenyouth mailinglist is the activist support mailinglist for kerala run by Global Alternate Information Applications (GAIA) To post to this group, send email to [email protected] -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
