Incidentally Bangladesh reeling under emergency rule **could receive the highest dignitary foreign guest as yet after the emergency rule proclaimed.* ** *Apart from other contentious issues, Shree Pranab volunteered to declare that there would be no* *withdrawal of water from Barak as part of the tipaimukh dam project. The declaration seems to be* *'innocent' and eco-friendly. In fact it is not. We express our annoyance at this ill-conceived* *wilful creation of SMOKESCREEN on the part of a very important central leader of India.* ** ** * In The Tipaimukh High Dam Project, as per official declarations, it was never mentioned about * *any element of water withdrawal through any barrage whatsoever. The project was claimed * *to produce 1500 MW electricity.* ** ** *In the ITDC2005,held in December,2005 in Dhaka, the water experts and activists of South Asia * *also never mentioned about the water withdrawal matter in the DHAKA DECLARATION.* ** *The Tipaimukh Dam, 500 ft. high and 1600 ft. long, pose and spell multi-faceted catstrophic disaster * *to the riverine civilization of the Barak/ Meghna basin.
