The government of India is planning to add 16,000 mw
of nuclear electricity during this five year plan.
Many of the announced sites for the plants are in the
coastal areas. Koodamkulam in Tirunelveli district of
Tamil Nadu is one of the sites. (Two 1000 mw VVER
nuke stations are already under construction here.
The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd says that
they will set up 4 more reactors here.) Local people
are up in arms against the proposal. The public
hearing had to be postponed twice due to people's
resistance.

Koodamkulam is less than a hundred kms from Kerala.
The nanoparticles - fission products - released
through the stacks there will take less than three
hours to reach here. Fishing also will be affected.

Kindly attend the meeting being convened to discuss
the issue and plan our future actions.

Venue : Trivandrum Hotel,

Time : 5 PM, 5 May 2007
