Thanks for this report, I do think this must be widely condemned!
The Church in Kerala no longer feels obliged even to carry on charity now
that the USSR has disappeared -- in the 1950s, its 'poverty-alleviation'
frenzy was fuelled by such fears. It no longer feels obliged to promote
social development either -- if the first generation of women who entered
nursing (in the 1950s) under conditions of severe economic and agrarian
distress were supported by church institutions, the present wave of
distress-entrants into the same profession can no more look for any such
support.
In other words, the church's claims to be 'socially useful' are looking all
the more fraudulent now : this seems to be the right moment to pull off the
fur and expose the fangs beneath.
Could we all write our protests to MGU and this institution?
