Its worrying to see CM's office relate the defacing of a public site as *hacking* and those behind such acts as *hackers*. Crackers and cracking would have been ideal. Hacking is a professional act of altering source code, a phase synonymous with Free software development.
But is it worthy enough to be labelled a cyber crime ? A cyber crime should be one which affects most common people - spams, threats etc - why should an individual be forced to know about something she hasn't solicited. If the IT ministry in Kerala wants to put its public police systems to people's use - then they should be doing the duty of hunting, tracking down such offenders and punishing them, however rich and wealthy corporates they be - Microsoft, Adobe, Viagra, Antarim manufacturer, Global lottery mafia etc. Not the occasional ones like these which are on the virtual space - will the police show the same spirit if effigies of public people are burnt or abuse showered during protest marches - more so, because such acts are done by people who have lost their balance - Akbar Raj, for instance...
