HI 1. There seem to be an attempt to manufacture consent that nbody criticises VS Achuthanandan, Kerala chief minister. In this forum, to my knowledge, he had been criticised on three issues. Smart City, Peoples' resistences and Prisoners' rights. If a chief minster could not be criticised on such ploicy issues which affect the society in major ways, what the hell is the meaning of democracy? Why don't his sympathisers [in this forum] come up with explanations to the criticisms raised rather than requesting all to be his fans?
2. In case of prisoners' rights, please read LDF's election manifesto. They have clearly stated what they will do once in office. The movement as well as struggling prisoners are raisning demands from within the parameters of their avowed standpoints. During last five years, only ten eligible prisoners were released in Kerala. About thousand were released in 1997--2002. This situation obtained due to the apathy on State governement's side. 3. On Guruvayoor issue, there are some assumptions behind the Gandhian way of Satyagraha. It reduces the whole issue to one of rights of believers.i.e: not a civil rights issue but an internal problem of Hinduism. It is typical Gandhian paradigm . It allows caste Hindus to be heroes. It denies self representation to Dalits and others. That is why Ambedkar refused to act as Sugreevas and Hanumans anymore and embraced Budhism. Ambedkar was modern and postmodern simultaneously!! Just imagine if his decision were to embrace Islam. He established that what is important is not the rights of believers but the very right to [ choose] one's belief. Thus, whether one is a Hndu or "Ahindu " become a matter of choice.
