Dear Friends
I think Ive joined this group of recent (I think in April). This discussion brought by Anivar is welcome. I ve been closely observing the pattern of the discussion going through the e group and I like the way it is going because 1. There is a lot of information sharing 2. There is a space to agree as well as disagree as well as be neutral (if there is one) 3. Disagreements are well articulated though at times may be sarcastic; hard hitting as long as this space is for ideas sharing this will be a part and parcel of it. Before I respond to Anivars questions I would like to bring to the attention of the objective of the group as written on the net. *It states "This is a Online platform for exchange ideas and information's helps to create a Greenish Future with a green politics"* *With respect to access: this is what the moderator has to state* * * *"Anybody can view group content* *Only members can view group members list* *People can request an invitation to join* *Members can create and edit pages* *Members can upload files* *Only members can post* *Messages from new members are moderated"* * * *So if a member wants to join the forum the objective is very vague according to me "Greenish future" "Green Politics". This should be more specified in terms of the politics and praxis of the group. If anything can be discussed that should be written.....* Now to Anivar s questions 1. *What is the primary Purpose of Posting a news clip into this list? Is it for raising discussion on it, or for awareness or for any other purpose?* Ans: I would look that posting a news clip is for information as well as raising a discussion on it; whether it creates awareness or not is not at all my agenda personally as I am no "evangelist" to convert "people". 2. *Who is the targeted Readers of Your post. Is it for search traffic? * *or for list members? How many people among 540 subscribers are suppose * *to read the mail as per your expectations?* Ans: As long as the second point in the ACCESS refers to anyone can view the group content obviously it will include the members of the community as well as anyone who views the group content. The mails/ opinions I send obviously will be limited to the people who are interested in subject or who would engage in the thread of discussion. I personally do not take any effort to make people read...... 3. *What is the primary reason for posting into the list? Reply or Raising points? Or asking "Disturbing questions"?* Ans: This is a very complicated question and I am sure this question has stemmed up from the discussion on the thread on Caste and Gender in the urban space of Keralam. Now every one may have different reasons like some may genuinely feel for the cause and as one's identity is also being analysed some take the discussions to another level in a theoretical plane trying to connect it with the day to day lives incidents; well some are also there who write even without reading the complete posts bring some scholars name into it and smash it into the discussion and the readers also feel that from where has this popped into. Such type of "pseudo intellectuals/ activists" also write (God [if there is one/many] knows why). In this type of a group "Disturbing Questions" will arise only on certain topics for example caste, it is to be noticed that disturbing questions will be raised and debated by the "genuine" (I am not saying rest are not genuine; cant find a better word) people who are engaging with the reality in the day to day lives too I suppose. So disturbing questions will also arise as this forum is not a classroom where it is a one way lecture or even a church. 4. *can you give a rough figure of the average time spent to follow the discussions on thread?* * * Roughly an hour a day it depends on the issue I do not read every post. Rather I prioritise.... 5. *Did you ever felt the speed of discussion prevents you to raise some points at apt-time?* At times yes, but I think that will happen because as the intensity of the discussion increases the momentum also will increase so it is bound to happen there are at times when the group is inactive too. The last question I do not want to answer Now a question to Anivar Why should we shoot questions to the contributors are we trying to say over here too that please give space to the non contributors. Is some one occupying "others" spaces too? I think everyone has a role to play and let people play that as long as the group is ok with it and people must be free to subscribe, unsubscribe, resubscribe according to what they wish as this forum is not evangelise any one -- "There are more ideas on earth than intellectuals imagine. And these ideas are more active, stronger, more resistant, more passionate than ''politicians'' think. We have to be there at the birth of ideas, the bursting outward of their force: not in books expressing them, but in events manifesting this force, in struggles carried on around ideas, for or against them. Ideas do not rule the world. But it is because the world has ideas... that it is not passively ruled by those who are its leaders or those who would like to teach it, once and for all, what it must think" - Foucault ANIL Anil Tharayath Varghese National Centre for Advocacy Studies Serenity Complex, Ramnagar Colony Pashan, Pune 21 Phone - 02022952003/4 Mobile - 09890387877 email - [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ greenyouth mailinglist is the activist support mailinglist for kerala To post to this group, send email to [email protected] -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
