*Dalit Oppression in Academics! Where Caste Don't Matter?* * * Dalit oppression is common here in India & also ignored by almost all the Govts. Read below few of the incidents & other things & it will not take you much time to decide the things those hurts Hindutav, Brahmanism preachers. The 1st very "Dalit" word itself! Dalits abroad, Dalit in media, Dalit at ATM, Dalit in cars, Dalits at school, colleges etc everywhere hurt Hindutav, Brahmanism preachers.
*Dalits in Schools & Colleges:- * * * Though Dalit students are much more intelligent but the caste will matter always. You won't get the proper treatment as other upper caste student get from teachers or other staff. *Dalit students are often forced to sit at back of their school classrooms, or even outside. ** In examinations the students are asked about their caste, religion etc which is of no use at all. * Recently the Thorat Committee, which came into picture after many newspapers reported discrimination in AIIMS, reports by this committee showed that in* AIIMS there is 100% caste based ragging, 88% hostel isolation of SC/ST students, 76% of SC/ST students face discrimination in mess, SC/ST students can't play cricket, basketball, almost 84% students said they face discrimination in examinations (The Telegraph Monday, May 07, 2007).* Almost same would be the condition of the BHU. If this is the condition of the top most colleges what will be the condition of other state level or other school, colleges? No one came forward till now to take action against this according to the Thorat committee report. I would also like to listen from the Dalit organizations & NGO's what steps they have taken after coming Thorat Committee report into picture that showed clearly caste based discrimination in AIIMS, the top most medical college of India. I think a month has been passed & no action or any step by any of the Dalit organizations till now!! Even now out of all seats meant for SC/STs in IITs, 10-20 % seats remain vacant because it seems IITs do not find suitable candidates. But all will be amazed to read that the last year the SC student of ECE with highest marks (94.33 percentile) in GATE (Exam for M. Tech. in IITs) was denied admission in IIT- Delhi without any reason. Much surprising was that last year only 13% reservation was given & rests of the seats were kept vacant or were transferred to general quota but not given the admission to SC/ST students. See the another News from the India's top most educational institutes "*JNU girl** alleges molestation, casteist slur", *"*Dalit student in Delhi University beaten up"** *their crime* *they were Dalits & tried to drink water from the tap while his upper caste hostel mates instructed them not to do so. "*Caste Discrimination in Hyderabad Central University**"* 10 SC students were rusticated without any reason, these were members of *"The Ambedkar Student Association"* protesting the humiliation of a Dalit faculty member who is the warden of research scholar's (men) hostel. (Source: - www.ambedkar.org ) * * *"Indian teachers purify Dalit students with cow urine"**(April 2007, IBN) *was the news few days back from Mumbai, **upper caste teachers sprinkled cow urine on low-caste students to purify them and drive away evil, no action till now against that teacher also & the 1st very statement that came was the* "teacher is superstitious not the casteist !!" *I'll say if teacher is a superstitious then what that teacher doing in schools? That teacher should be in any of the Hindu temple so as to misguide people well!! * * *"Education for all, NA for Dalits"** **(May* 10, 2007 IBN report, Garhsarmai, Panipat) 3 SC kids are denied admission in the village school, father of these kids said that when he asked principal for admission he replied *"we do not take chamars (Dalits)". *These 3 kids have done much well in the lower grades now they go 6 km away in the expensive school thou parents don't have money. "*Dalit girl barred from going to college" *(Nrusinghpur village near Bhubaneswar) because there is only road leading to school which is 7 km away but according to old Hindu tradition no Dalit can go through that road! Girl is the only one in the village from Dalits who has cleared 10th but now the further hopes of studies is lost due to old Hindu practice. These all are just the fraction of the thousands of the atrocities are happening on Dalit students in professional colleges or in the schools. I don't know why our Dalit organizations are also so insensitive like Dalit masses to the situations those matters us. *Not even the SC/ST cell in the colleges' works properly which adds more problems to SC/ST students. *If the surveys of all over the India be done on the *Dalit Oppression in Academics*the true picture casteist behavior of upper caste teachers, student, staff etc in the school, colleges will come in-front of people, which will be definitely shameful! * * *Separate Hostels for Dalit Students:- *** Separate hostels for Dalit students are found in the many parts of India. No proper messes, if there are, even then the Dalit students will be made to sit separate in messes. A survey showed* *Dalit children had to sit separately while eating in 37.8% of Govt. schools. Poor maintenance, poor supplies of water, electricity, no security at all are other problems. If there is a statue of Dr B R Ambedkar in the campus then that will be cleaned only on 14th April. What a shame! A few days back same reports came from the Meerut (U.P.) that the Dalit students were attacked in their separate hostels. Main problem comes when there is no hostel for Dalits & upper caste people don't even wants to give you rented home. * * *Caste Matters in the Indian Police:- * Caste consciousness is rising not only in college campuses but even among the law enforcement agencies in certain states. *Separate kitchens for Yadavs, Rajputs, Bhumihars, Brahmins and Harijans at police stations of Patna* (IBN report on 5th Feb, 2007). So can we expect anything good? The answer is big NO. Apart from these if Dalits want to register a FIR etc this will take them many days of Dalits will be tortured to take the case back by the police itself. *About 70,000 cases are registered each year against the POLICE itself!** *Protectors are becoming the predators. More shameful is that the 63% of these cases are closed without any hearing! Nothing to wonder its India can happen anything!! *Daily almost 27 officially registered atrocities are being committed against Dalits **(many crimes remain unnoticed as a fear of dominant castes or of police)*. If we take the case of Indian military they also divided into Sikh regiment, Dogra regiment, Rajput regiment etc but why not the Dalit regiment? * * *Caste Matters in the Indian Media:- * One can easily figure out that the caste matters in media also, the national media at the time of Reservation issue showed the nearly month-long anti-reservation agitation of doctors and medical students at AIIMS and other colleges. Despite the 24x7 presence of TV cameras, the daily protests in favour of reservation by AIIMS doctors and staff under the banner of *`Medicos Forum for Equal Opportunities'* were virtually blacked out! All over the India the protest in favour of reservation also took place but no coverage of any of the protest by the casteist media. Why Indian media was sleeping at the time of Khairlangi? And why Indian media showing the news of Mahajan beats his wife, India lost in cricket, India wins in Tennis etc. Channels those claims to be the fastest channels of India has only shown 1-2 min of clip on the Nagpur protest and whole day on all stupid news like Mahajan beats his wife, India lost in cricket, India wins, Ministers wife is pregnant, Britney going to divorce etc. What common people here in India going to do with all these news? Does all these news making any sense here in India where about 85% people are suffering day to day life? Why they haven't shown the clear picture to the Indian masses which was the public interest of about 85% people. ** Answer of all the above & many other questions are in this question. *Who has the major share of magazines/newspapers published in India?** *The Brahmins of course! According to a recent survey their share of the media is approximately 81 %. The following are the well known Newspapers that are owned by the Brahmins, *The Indian Express - 93 % employees are Brahmins * *The Hindu - 97 % employees are Brahmins * *The Times of India - 73 % employees are Brahmins* These Brahmins have invaded both All India Radio and Television. Most of the time the Brahmins and their programmers are on air like Ram-Sita, Hanuman (Monkey man!) etc which are of no use at all, misguiding the people & not even talk about humanity & peace just killing one another & making people fool. Till now I haven't understood who is worshipping whom? In one serial you'll find Ram worshipping Sita or Hanuman & in another you'll find reverse!! These people are just spreading Brahmin-wad by polluting the innocent minds of the people. Also people from Dalit- Bahujan community don't come forward to start own media & not much people try to write. Thou I know the resources available for Dalits here are less but if we use the available resources in the proper way we can generate much. * * *Caste Matters in the Indian Judiciary:- *** * * *About 78% judges are the Brahmins!* Can any one expect of justice? The 1stDalit chief justice, Bal Krishnan faced discrimination on the very 1 st day when he was appointed chief justice when Sonia Gandhi didn't shake hand with him. Apart from this there was news few months back *"Dalit judge seeks justice"!! * *14 million cases are still pending in the Indian courts! (Source- Times of India, March 21st, 2002) *this is to be kept in mind that there is no reservation in the courts. Justice for Dalits is just another word. * * *Discrimination to poor Dalit Farmers:- * * * *Grain, milk etc produced by Dalits is taken at very low cost by the upper caste merchants.** *Fishing, cattle feeding etc business didn't became much profitable for Dalits, just because of the reason that these upper caste merchants take away these from Dalits at very much lower rates & earn huge money afterwards. No other facilities like free water, electricity supply, seeds at lower cost etc are given to poor Dalits nor the Dalits know about the available schemes for the agriculture due to lack of education. Thousands of the farmers' suicide yearly but no one is there to look after their problems. SEZs those are being set by the Govts are another form of exploiting poor Dalit farmers. *Discrimination to SC/ST Teachers:- * Only 11% seats have been filled in Punjab education department out of 22.5%reservation. Most of the headmasters & teachers of this community are not being promoted thou they are senior to their general caste counter parts since 1996 due to malafide intensions. * * *No entry of Dalits to Temples:- * Dalits are still not allowed to enter in the temples, take the example of Orissa. Dalits struggled from last so many years to enter the JAGANNATH TEMPLE in the Kendrapara, Orissa. December 16, 2006 Dalits entered in the temple & many upper caste people went on hunger strike protest, then the administration there decided that separate door would be made for the entry of the Dalits this is another shame on all, where administration is doing such behavior what common person will expect? Why can't Dalits enter from the same door? Aren't they Human, same as others? * * *A study shows that 63 per cent of temples prohibit Scheduled Castes and Dalits. We don't want to go there for worship but we should be having equal rights over everything.* * * See the money collected by some of the Hindu temples every year, figures must be higher as no govt. has ever tried to collect data about this (Source:- Hindutav- Problem for Problems - By L R Bali) Trimala Temple 5Arab 32 crores Ramakrishnan Mission 1Arab 52 crores Shiridi Sai Baba 85 crores Pliani Devsthan Saba 50 crores Vashno Devi 30 crores These days Anti- Reservationists cry over if the reservation will be implemented we'll be in need of crores of rupee. I'll say the money is not the problem here in India if all this collected money by these temples is used in proper manner, almost every problem can be solved. Dr B R Ambedkar has also pointed this in the manifesto for his *"Independent Labour Party"*that at least 10% of the income of temples should be collected & should be spend on the EDUCATION & on HEALTH. * * *For Dalits it's all in the Surnames:- * * * *A survey conducted in Gujarat by State Social Welfare Department showed that about 47% Dalits has changed their surname just to avoid caste discrimination. *This is another thing to be noted that the people can live the way they want to live. These are the people those are living in fear. Isn't it? *See one recent study of untouchability in Rural India covering 565 villages in 11 states found that:- * · Public health workers refused to visit Dalit homes in 33% of villages, · Dalits were prevented from entering police station in 27.6% of villages, · Dalits didn't get mail delivered to their homes in 23.5% of villages, · Dalits were denied access to water sources in 48.4% of villages because of segregation & untouchability practices. *There was boycott of Dalits in Karnataka last year; Khairlangi killings etc are few of another example of Dalit oppression. Dalits are made to suffer day-to-day life. * * * *A Few other news:- * * * *Dalit boy beaten to death for taking part in "GITA PAATH news from Lucknow (TOI, June 16th, 2006)* Dalit woman sarpanch paraded naked in MP (Hindustan Times, June 23, 2006) *Caste discrimination clouds relief effort in flood-hit Rajasthan (IBN, Sept 8th 2006)*** * * *2001 Census wipes out Dalits in Maharastra (IBN, June 19th, 2006)* * * *Wife of Dalit leader murdered (The Hindu, April 07th, 2006)* Such news one can find easily daily in 100s. Who is not suffering in the hands of these Manuwadi people? Dalit Student, lawyer, Judge, IAS, Teacher, Doctor, Engineer, MLA, MP, Sarpanch? Etc. All are suffering. *Can anyone reply where caste doesn't matter? Is there any field? * Is this a 21st century? Can't believe! This is really shame on all Indian that even after entering in the 21st century when rest of the world is going towards progress & development; India is still there at where it was 2500 years ago. Still practicing fake stupid rituals & customs those never let people to treat equal & expecting of becoming developed nation with ail these. There is a need now to bring a strong Dalit-Bahujan movement so that all this stops. For all this, we have to *follow the footsteps of Dr. B R Ambedkar & path shown by the Lord Buddha, **Lord Buddha have said" You must not only discard the shastras, you must deny their authority & you should have courage to tell Hindus that where they are wrong", this is what is the need of the time**, **hence we can create the social, economical, cultural equality i.e. Utopia. *There is urgent need to change & to capture these 3P's by Dalits if Dalits want any change in their lives, 1. Police 2. Politician 3. Printing Press & electronic media. * * *Will ever Dalits be living with PEACE & DIGNITY here in India without Casteism or any other Discrimination?
