Dear friends,
As part of a new initiative in rehabilitating Chithralekha,
whose autorikshaw (the only means of livelihood purchased on a loan under
JRY scheme) had been burned by unidentified persons in December 2005,
there is an offer by a Delhi based Dalit organization for advancing her
some funds to enable rebuilding life by purchasing and plying a new
autorikshaw. The offer has to be accepted by responsible persons who would
re-coupe the sum through individual contributions collected state wide.
More importantly, Chithralekha, a dalit woman who refuses to be cowed down
by the unwrit codes of Caste and Gender as practiced in this Northern
district of Kerala, needs to be assured of protection in the work place,
despite all those pretensions of unions that may claim ignorance or non
complicity in incidents of playing up the past hostilities.
Dr.D.Surendranath of Kannur has invited all persons who keep genuine concern
in this issue,
to a meeting at Rainbow Lodge, Kannur (Attached to the muncipal bus stand
complex) on 29th August at 4PM.
Persons based at Kannur , Kasargode and Kozhikkode districts especially may
please find some time to make it to Kannur, despite their engagements
elsewhere.
