dear all
this mail i got from painter-poet kavitha balakrishnan. please respond

it is a very sad fact that religion and its artistic essense can not
even be touched in today's politically charged scenario. whoever
proves that religion is nothing but great ART of sensitive and much
sensuous mankind, will be persecuted. it will be easily interpreted as
nothing but abuse and irreverance.
How will Hussain come down to India even if the courts had not
produced such orders? the bandwagons of politicised Hindu religion
will never leave him at peace. the deepest feudal undercurrents of
Kerala and Gujarat will not prove much different at some such moments.

but artist is a special creed. One should be sensitive to recognize
the worth of an artistic spirit. how will one expect it from courts of
a fundamentalist-corporate-world?

in an interview for artconcerns.com, when i asked the famous South
Indian Art collector Sara Abraham about her 60 years long association
with Hussain, she made some revealing statements....

"....Because BJP and RSS are making it political. No other reason is
there. What they are doing is putting Victorian petticoats on gods and
goddesses. This narrow minded outlook is ridiculous. People who do
this don't know what Hinduism is all about. Tell one Hindu goddess who
was clothed till Ravi Varma's time? Sexuality was not a defamed
subject in early India. We considered it as honourable as religion.
For Indian mind body was not a discredited thing. It is not lust we
see in body. It was so open and shown that men didn't lust after the
body. Some must of course have misused it. But by and large, body of
men and women are considered as creation of god. Hinduism framed and
glorified body. Islam covered it. As a religion it is more mental.
Islam is a very beautiful religion in a different way. But there is
nothing in religion to fight about. Gandhi had no fight with Islam or
any religion. Narrow minded people of today are doing it.
And see, Hussain has done nothing against Hinduism or against any
religion for that matter. He is a very religious person and a very
good man, warm hearted, all-giving, generous and thinking person.
People just don't know this when they condemn him."
