All over the world, stupid bigoted politicians, parents - and yes, teachers too - refuse their responsibility to educate children towards personal sexual happiness. Recently, UNICEF did a survey of childrens' wellbeing in some 20 industrial countries (see unicef.org). It emerged that Dutch children appear to be happiest. Is it a coincidence that Holland has one of the world's best organised national sex education programmes, called " Long Live Love"? Is it a coincidence that British children were found to be among the most miserable, and worried about bullying; while sex education in our country's schools is almost optional now, after years of retreat on this issue, and no national programme. The nearest thing we have to sex education in the UK now are the endless titillating scandals of the royal family. Look on the internet and you will find dozens of excellent sex education programmes. But how many are being implemented by our cowardly educational authorities? I'm a qualified teacher, and helped take a sex education school class in London 25 years ago, when many London schools still had good sex education programmes.
