*New Delhi, Oct 7*Even as more number of Indian women are going up the
corporate ladder with heavy pay packets, only 12.7% of females of the
country's active workforce are having cash incomes, a latest study says.

Further, nearly 68% of women graduates in India are not having any form of
income against their name, reveals a recent study on the income and savings
pattern of Indians.

"Of the active workforce with cash incomes, only 12.7 % are females," notes
the report titled 'Invest India Incomes and Savings Survey 2007' by IIMS
Dataworks.

It collected data from nearly one million households on occupation, income
sources, income and asset ownership and household composition, among others.

"We have taken cash income into account for making the calculations. For
instance, there are many people whose net worth is very high considering
their assets and number of shares owned, among others. But here we have only
considered income earned in cash," said executive director, IIMS Dataworks,
Sandeep Ghosh. According to the survey, most of the women are waged
labourers. While 35.4% of them are into agricultural wage labour, the
highest for any sector, about 17% are into waged labour. Only 5.2 % are
private salaried workers, the study reported.
