New York: If UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi could make it to the Forbes list
of the world's 10 most powerful women, BSP chief M ayaw at i , who aspires
to become PM, is not behind.

The 51-year-old UP chief minister has been profiled by US magazine
'Newsweek' as one of the eight outstanding women leaders worldwide who have
reached the top despite all odds. Narrating her struggle, the Dalit leader
writes in the magazine: "I like the competition and I like to win. Our aim
now is to replicate the winning formula in other states and prepare for the
bigger struggle to capture power in New Delhi."

BSP swept the UP assembly elections by involving upper castes and Muslims.
Mayawati said her party needed an aggressive approach to rally the poor
Dalits. "Parties dominated by upper castes got alarmed. Their opposition cut
short each of my first four stints as CM." She said in view of the
situation, "it became clear we needed to broaden the base to include the
poor irrespective of caste or religion." AGENCIES
