*Date: **9-01-2008** * Action Alert Action Alert Action Alert * * The news of TATA motors launching its One Lakh Rupee car in New Delhi, for the worlds market is all over. The car is to be a product of TATA Fiat consortium and hence the event is much more publicized in Italy , the home country of Fiat international than even in India. With Ratan Tata as the only non-Italian director on Fiat's board , He was already in the News there as the philanthropist corporate while the event to be on January 10 ^th is even more exaggeratedly highlighted with perverted claim of success in settling the conflict of Singur and achievement *like "Spirit of Gandhi inspires a bargain"…* We, the Indians, know it very well that the struggle by the people of Singur is far from ended. Not only that a few thousand families of farmers and labourers are in open protest against the TATA Fiat project but also the owners of at least 350 acres of land have not touched cash compensation in spite of pressures and promises. On the other hand, Shankar Patra's was fourth suicide , by a labourer and Bargadar having lost the livelihoods to the inhuman grab of land – the only source – by Tatas with full support by the state of West Bengal and the infamous Party cadres of CPI(M). While two of the party's office bearers are still in jail for the rape and murder case, all the crimes committed against the peaceful living farmers, Fishworkers, artisans and labourers go scot-free. There is no doubt that Tata-Fiat project work in Singur has progressed over a Year but only with brutal force used to beat, molest, and book the people with false charges. When no production of car has started in Singur, all the partners are still watching whether the corporate power could win or bully the villagers. The strengths retained till now, in spite of no response and distorted propaganda by the party in power is no doubt admirable. We, who are aware of the reality and are also not new to the danger signals with unbounded increase in the private traffic, the increased pollution at the cost of public transport and other alternatives, cannot remain silent on the day of Global and Glittering announcement with fictitious claims and grand finale.
