Thanks for your kind response to my post to Salim and later to the
Green Youth list.
I wish to clarify my point related to your latest poser here:
There was indeed a line of thinking at some stage,according to which
we imagined that Chithralekha with her auto procured thanks to the
people's initiative from all over the State and outside would move to
a a less hostile neighborhood (but not outside Payyanur or too far
away from her present home). I didn't use the expression "CPM
hegemony"; I could not have really appreciated invoking such an idea
in this context. I agree with you that this could have no meaning , as
we find CPM hegemony almost everywhere in Kerala . Therefore, it would
be a terribly bad idea to try fleeing it, rather than to encounter
it. Nevertheless, encountering it could and ought to be attempted non-
antagonistically, esp. when it comes to big or small clashes
originating in the first place from petty egos associated with the
power structures locally in command. For example , even as we wish to
challenge the unwritten codes of caste & gender and their celebration
by the CPM cadres and others, the last thing we would like to engage
in, is violent conflict with CPM die-hards,which could be fueled or
not fueled by smarter people in the CPM leadership, again, depending
on several variants!
p.s:-{It is against this background of near disregard toward
understanding these nuanced structures of power involving gender,
caste (and also "the party") by many of the more prominent players in
the field of social activism that I cannot help finding something
extremely refreshing and valuable in the paper by Jenny and Christy}.
