Dear all,
Forwarding this mail. I am wondering whether some of our friends would
say that the arrested women were diverting the struggle. Here also the
AIDWA comrades were very active in handling the 'anti state
conspiracy' women.

Subject: [activism-news-network:196] WOMEN ACTIVISTS ARRESTED BY
CPI(M) GOVT FOR POSTER IN SUPPORT NANDIGRAM AND SINGUR
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Five Women activists arrested in Calcutta at the behest of CPI(M) men
for postering in support Nandigram and Singur peasant movements and
charged for Conspiracy against state !!

While pasting posters of Nari Mukti Sangha in the vicinity of Bagha
Jatin Station in South Calcutta at about 6 PM on Sunday 23 March, five
women activists of the Sangha including a minor girl Bishnupriya were
accosted by CPI(M) men. They were forcibly taken into the local office
of the Democratic Women's Association, a frontal organisation of the
CPI(M). The activists were assaulted there and handed over to the
police. They were kept in the police lock up for the whole night. The
police did not inform the families of those arrested and the matter
came to light, when the police raided the house of the Secretary of
the Nari Mukti Sangha this morning where the police found nothing
incriminating. When the news spread, a large number of people
demonstrated against this attack on freedom of expression in front of
Jadavpur Police station. When the arrested women were produced in the
court today almost the whole bar present in the court room stood up
demanding their immediate release. But in line with the policy taken
by the state government in dealing with every dissent, the police had
framed a false case with charges of conspiracy against the state and
waging war against the state and slapped various sections of chapter
VI of the IPC, their bail applications were rejected. Two of them were
sent to police custody as prayed by the police and the rest to
judicial remand. Interestingly, according to papers submitted before
the court, the police 'received' the 'information' at 10.30 PM and
'arrested' them at 7-45 PM !!. The police further lied on paper by
saying that they were arrested in presence of the Secretary of the
Nari Mukti Sangha, who was not present at the place and lives about 30
Km away from the place.

A protest demonstration have been planned which will start from in
front of the Jadavpur University (8B Bus stand) at 4 PM on Tuesday 25
March.
