*25 lakh migrate from Bundelkhand: Report***
*
Friends,*

An alarming situation of lack of water has been unfolding in Bundelkhand
these past few months. Large lakes, small rivers, ponds, wells have all run
dry and groundwater has fallen acutely in the last 3-4 years. It is believed
that 25-35 lakh people have been forced to leave the region, animals have
been abandoned. Women and the rural poor are facing the brunt of this
fundamental crisis.

A 6-member team from KSG has just returned from Mahoba, Chhattarpur, and
Hamirpur, and has published a report, which examines the longer structural
factors that have contributed to the crisis, and discusses what can be done.
Our report: *A Sinking Feeling: Behind the Acute Water Crisis in Bundelkhand
*,* *is being released to the press.

*Date*: 20 May 2008 (Tuesday)
*Time*: 3 pm
*Venue*: Indian Women¹s Press Corps, 5 Windsor Place

Please do attend the press conference and tell others who might be
interested.
