*Criticisms galore against private post-mortems * ** Staff Reporter
KOCHI: Literary critic M.K. Sanoo has criticised the government order allowing self-financing medical colleges to conduct post-mortems. "This decision will only help the affluent ," he said. Mr. Sanoo was speaking after inaugurating the public convention against private post-mortem at Cheranalloor Government lower primary school. "The State government should recall this order, which is against the legal system as well as the health sector. All should unite in creating a new democratic culture based on the value system that a corpse also has right to justice," Mr. Sanoo said. In his presidential address, K. Girish Kumar, convenor of Anti-Capital Punishment Committee, countered the arguments put forward by the officials of Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences that medical students should conduct post-mortems. "Indian Medical Council guidelines stipulate that every medical student should witness ten post-mortems during the study and this could be done at any general hospital. It is not said anywhere that students should conduct post-mortems," he said. A public committee against private post-mortems was also formed at the meeting. -- Dileep R I thuravoor --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Green Youth Movement" group.
