Dear all,

All of you might have read in todays newspaper the interview with Thilakkan,
( he also received an national award last week) on the caste , community
issue within the 'secular' film industry. I quote the Hindu report: "*personal
animosity and casteims' had snatched away the national honours thrice
earlier".* Todays IE has a quote of Thilakkan on the same issue. Thilakan
and alos Jagathy ( recenlty in manorama news interview with Johny Lukose)
has raised the same issue of *prevailing casteism, (communiatrainism) as
well as Trivandrum geo-culltural lobbying (now ernakulam as well), and
relational (friendship etc) coteries working within the industry.* I am not
sure whether the industry leaders have given a patient hearing to Thilakkan
and Jagthy. I am also not sure whether our film critics has dealt this
issuse. I may be mistaken regarding the latter. Some small/ medium/ large
attempts have been done in this regard.

This dynamics is working in most of the domain. Besides the "caste and
communal interests", the 'gift economy' culture (borudieu)( includes
non-tangible gifts as well) ( in realtions etc) , 'accumulation of 'network
capital' ( geo-cultural and communitarian) are all central to certain
specific zone. Specific zones ( film as well as any "industry" for that
matter) are intended for enculturation of individuals in a specific mould
and route them thorugh a particular stream of engagement ( father figure of
this metthod is none other than Josph Stalin' s cultural thug, Zhadanov) and
constant reproduction of certain values.

More on this....
