*State evicting Adivasis at Aralam: AGM *

Special Correspondent

KANNUR: Accusing the State government of "caste discrimination" against
Adivasis, the Adivasi Gothra Mahasabha (AGM) has threatened to launch a stir
from July 9 to highlight its demand for ending the "discriminatory approach"
towards tribal families.

Alleging that there was an undeclared eviction of Adivasis from the Aralam
Farm in a bid to hand over half of its land to a new company to be
constituted for running the farm, AGM president C.K. Janu and Rashtriya
Mahasabha general secretary M. Geethanandan said at a press meet here on
Saturday that the removal of electric fencing that divided the Aralam
Wildlife Sanctuary and the farm land inhabited by Adivasi families was part
of a conspiracy to evict Adivasis from the farm.

Many Adivasi families settled in the farm as part of a rehabilitation
package had been forced to leave owing to shortage of facilities, they said.

These families would stage 'gothra pooja' and organise a cultural gathering
in front of the collectorate here on July 9.

Simultaneously, an indefinite stir would begin in front of the Adivasi
Rehabilitation Mission office in Thiruvanathapuram, they said.
