Ant effect Asma Siddiqui How strange it all seems to be? I look at the small ant It walks with dignity Small, but head high moving silently It works and gathers food endlessly Storing for the rainy days Feeding the young, decomposing the dead Is what its small being can perform individually Does it care to know? What difference its small steps make To the world at large, does it know? The toil, the hard work is not a waste Its presence is of such significance does it know? The ecosystem will crumple, the dead will grumble, Just if the ant refuses to take What others think of as a waste Imagine what will tumble? The farms, nature and its beauty Will lose their vigor and taste How strange it all seems to be? I take small steps daily Yet, the world doesn’t care to notice The effect my soul generates merely I need to know if my deeds are novice The personal glory is what I seek entirely How strange it all seems to be?
