venugopal,

I read through the text and I didn't anythng objectionable vis-a-vis
religion and religious practices.

Whatever the be the "text", I think the way in which the "text" is read in
the class may have some influence on the minds of the young ( am reminded of
an essay by Stanley Fish (Reader-reception Theory), "is there a text in the
class"----- oops, sorry, I was told not to mention names of any theorist and
thinker by an influential person)

But after I responded to a similar subject in a group discussion, I was
"misssing' soemthing. It is this...

In a multi-religious or interreligious society, how to frame a 'curriculum'
is a sensitive issue. Few secularists and a few rationalist cannot
sittogether and decide the curriculum and also the text book.

Let me also say that I dont about the clerical and methodological procedures
regarding the constitution and composition of committe and the conditon for
the states to follow national curriculum framework etc. (let someone who
knows this may enlighten)

One more point: we need also to closely look at how media treated this
issue.

thats for now

regards

damodar
