Friends of Radio Diaries, Tomorrow is Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday. To mark the occasion we have a few things to announce: -our new Mandela documentary airs on NPR -our previous series, Mandela: An Audio History, has just been released on CD -our new Radio Diaries podcast launches this week with Mandela: An Audio History NEW MANDELA DOCUMENTARY AIRS ON NPR In honor of Nelson Mandela's birthday, July 18th, our new documentary takes a look back at Mandela's 1963 treason trial where he outlined his dream of democracy in South Africa and declared, "It's an ideal for which I am prepared to die." It was the moment when Mandela became known to the world as a symbol of resistance and democracy. "Becoming Nelson Mandela" airs on NPR's All Things Considered, Friday July 18 at 4:30 PM (East Coast time). The audio will be available on our website after the broadcast: http://www.radiodiaries.org MANDELA: AN AUDIO HISTORY RELEASED ON CD Mandela: An Audio History is the extraordinary narrative of the decades-long fight to end apartheid, featuring the voices of Nelson Mandela and those who fought with and against him. The new CD is hosted by Desmond Tutu with an introduction by Nelson Mandela. Originally broadcast on National Public Radio in 2004. Winner of the duPont Award, considered the broadcast equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize.
