I have been watching A.K.Balan's press meet announcing a package for landless sceduled caste and scheduled tribe sections in Kerala as well as a news story on Chengara ( MMNews).
by way of a prelimenary attempt at analysing the situation, let me point out the following aspects. 1.To date no step has been taken by the government to remove the blockade at Chrngara, blocking of P.V.Rajagopal being the latest evidence. neither the ministers nor mediators say anything on this. there are every reasons for taking this as the usual ploy of 'pacifying' the struggling people when the struggle atracts the imagination of the civil society so that an ambience will be created where the 'solution' will loom large . Party and state will use this interval to come back with more arrogance. WHY NO STEPS ARE TAKEN TO REMOVE BLOCKADE DESPITE THE ASSURANCE GIVEN BY MINISTERS? 2.By not addressing or entering into any direct contact with the protesters, and announcing a package, the effort on Government's part is clearly to subotage the claims raised by the movement. ( We may analyse the concrete details of the proposed package tomorrow when the full text will be vailable) 3.As per MM news, "plantaion workers " have intensified thier counter moves. They have issued a joint statement today repeating that they will march to Chengara on 3rd, "emancipate' the estate from encroachers and give back to 'workers'. They have asked the government to take action against protesters and "solidarity committee". 4.Let us view the situation from tjhose who are on the struggle site. For them, there isn't an iota of change in the situation . Let us continue our support more actively.
