*TV reality shows to be no longer child's play*

*New Delhi:* Reality shows on TV channels are all set to be reined in with
the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights recommending that
children below 16 years of age be barred from participating in such shows.

The Commission also wants that interviewing parents of interested
participants of reality shows be made mandatory.

It would prescribe the minimum age limit for participants as more than 16
years, but it could be brought down to 12 years and no cash awards should be
given in such reality shows.

Instead educational bonds or fixed deposits should be given. The Commission
would also recommend that a counselor be present at reality shows and
punitive action be taken against broadcasters/ show producers if child is
mentally harassed with unusually harsh comments.

But these guidelines the commission said should be a synergised one - making
the broadcasters do it voluntarily.
