Dear Donors and friends,
This is the time for me to go with a begging bowl for your donations.
I have been waiting to finish all the projects undertaken in 2007 before asking
for 2008 donations. But unfortunately, two tasks are still not completed 100%.
I am yet to receive complete details on UP scholarships distribution
Task of handing over award money to Ms Baby Kamble, the author of “The
Prisons We Broke”.
Due to logistic reasons, I have not been able to complete these tasks.
But time doesn’t wait for us and December is fast approaching. Our
advertisement to all Govt schools in AP fetched us around 350 applications so
far and we are still receiving them.
Though I am silent on the forum for all these days, I have been busy working
with individuals and organization on one to one basis.
One good news: An organization (name will be revealed later with permission)
approached us to study our project a few months ago. When contacted, I gave the
necessary information and contacts in India. Their volunteer visited our
projects (both microloans and scholarships) and prepared a detailed report to be
submitted to their organization for funds. His report was very encouraging and
hoping to get some funding from it.
Thanks to Prof Anand Sawrup of Australia and Ms Krishna Rao of US who helped me
in microloans project. Now we have around 40 beneficiaries – tea stall owners,
killi shop owners, vegetable vendors, idli makers, milk buffello owners, water
cart owners etc. We are planning to give half a dozen loans in a few weeks. We
are getting requests from hundreds of others seeking our help. Our project is
gaining popularity in non Dalits as we helped a few of them as well.
The volunteer was very much impressed by the way we are running the project.. He
interviewed the beneficiaries in private and took photos. He also interviewed
four of our scholarship recipients in private and impressed by their
intelligence and their zeal to excel in life. He appreciated our selection
method.
I was very happy to read his report and I would like to share with you if
possible (I need to take his permission to share).
So, friends and donors!
Please help me to help 300 scholarships and 300 loans this year. I may not be
able to spend time as before as I have to commute to work spending a minimum of
5 hours day in traffic congested Los Angeles public transport. But, I promise, I
will inform all activities in regular intervals. Please help me spending less
time asking you for donations.
