This is an urgent request i am sending to you please consider.
Gajaraben was living with her parents (Maganbhai Lakhabhai Thakor is
her father) before her marriage. Her marriage was arranged at the age
of 13 within her cast with Kanubhai Chaganbhai Thakor in Vatadara
village in Anand district, Gujarat State. She has two sons and one
daughter from Kanubhai. The marriage did not work out as her husband
was an alcoholic, also they brewed liquor in their house and sold it,
the family always doubted Gajraben's intention and also treated her
badly, abused her beat her up and treated her badly.
Men used to visit their house frequently to buy liquor, Gajraben got
involved with Allarakaha, who belonged to the Muslim community, she
found comfort in him, she left her home with her children and married
Allarakha, Gajraben's family was very supportive, but Allarakha's
family was not supportive, Gajra and Allarakah lived separately, her
children from her first husband are with her parents. She works as a
daily wage labour, and Allarakha is a driver.
Gajra belonged to the Hindu Thakore community, the community was very
angry with her for marrying a Muslim she was assaulted repeatedly by
the community men, she was boycotted from the village. She continued
to live with Allarakha on the outskirts of the village. On 27th Feb
when the Godhra incident happened and violence spread far and wide in
the whole state Watadra too was attacked. On 3/3/02 Gajra got to know
about the intensity of the violence through a neighbour, she shifted
Allarakha to a safer base, she stayed at home thinking that she being
a Hindu would not be attacked, but the fiery mob came and ransacked
her house burned it and dishonoured the religious symbols. She was
then pulled away by the mob in that village and raped there.
She was able to report her case two days later, she named the accused,
while the case was ongoing the accused abducted her daughter and
forced her to withdraw the case against the accused, she was then
helped by a police to get protection. She has been living in the
village, her husband has become less supportive she has been fighting
her battle all alone and is persistent to fight her case and wants
justice.
Last February she met with and accident, and she has broken her leg,
she has no money to treat herself, neither does she have any support,
she is at the mercy of her neighbours, Allarakha her husband hardly
pays any heed. Even in this painful situation, she is going strong
with her case. for the last six months she has not received any
treatment, she went to the government hospital but she did not have
enough to pay for her treatment and the doctors troubled her, tried of
it she came home and since then is surviving of pain killers, she
cannot get up from her and has been like this for a long time.
I just got the news today that she has developed Malaria and her leg
is getting worse.
I request you to help with any assistance possible. I am writing to
all of you with great pain and hope.
