Some political parties and their supporters are under the assumption that
nuclear missiles and bombs are the criteria for development. They even believe
that a mere growth in GDP will show that we are in the right path.
How can a country be in the path of development when about 300 million people
are still below poverty line? It is a paradox that millions of people go hungry
when 4.8 million tonnes of food grains are lying in the godowns of the Food
Corporation of India (FCI) with the risk of being destroyed(article by Brinda
Karat, The Hindu, dec25).
By a simple calculation, 4.8 million tonnes of food grains can feed two crore
people for 365 days considering that one kg food grain can feed five people at
a time.BJP and its allied parties should read world hunger report.
