Dear all, Read the article carefully. So our actors and cricketters and police and the public is going to handle 'suspected' terrorists. Recently I have come across a sticker put by the Cochin Rotary club about guidelines how to spot terrorists. That also states about having a vigil on people who carry back pack, people who have all of a sudden became religious etc. I think all 'citizens' should read it and behave carefully to avoid unnecessary suspicion.
We may have to wait for years to have surveillance cameras in our bed rooms. But seems like that will happen in the near future, and we will have a city clean and free of any suspects. With faith and obediance in the police and all other policing mechanims Aryan City Police to launch anti-terror campaign Staff Reporter http://www.hindu.com/2009/01/10/stories/2009011060800300.htm Cine stars, cricketers to attend the function ________________________________ Training for taxi, autorickshaw drivers Banks, hotels told to step up security ________________________________ KOCHI: The City Police will launch its campaign against terrorism with much glitter and show. Actor Shah Rukh Khan is expected to be among the leading film stars from Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil and cricketers to be present for the show to be held at Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium on January 26. Minister for Home, Vigilance and Tourism, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan will inaugurate 'Aspirations', the Janamaitri Anti-Terrorism campaign. The show will be based on the theme of fight against terrorism. The slogan for the campaign "Kochiite alert – report any suspect terrorism activity" will be released on the occasion, along with launching an anti-terrorism toll-free helpline number. The City Police had been running a campaign through its New Year greeting cards to make people alert about terrorism. With the show, this campaign will be taken up in a full-fledged manner. Multi-pronged plan Marking the current year as 'Anti-Terrorism Year', the City Police are launching a multi-pronged campaign to cover all sections of society. The police are now asking the public to pass on information about suspicious movements or activities in their locality to the confidential hotline number or to the police website, www.kochicitypolice.org. More campaign tools like posters, leaflets and music album will be released on the occasion. Residential associations will be roped in to support the campaign. As the first step, information about the residents in each area, which will include the details of residents and their frequent visitors, will be collected at the association level and handed over to the police. This list will be constantly updated. Training will be given to select members from every residential association to spot terrorist suspects and act accordingly. The goal is to build an elaborate network of first-line monitors in the fight against terrorism. Advertisements Advertisements will be run over print and electronic media to spread the message about the campaign, along with presentations and short films to be screened at theatres and public places. Training will be given to autorickshaw and taxi drivers to be on the look-out for suspicious characters. Similar training will be given to shop-keepers in busy public places. This will be done in association with the merchants' associations. Training will also be given to fishermen for spotting terrorist movement along the coastal belt. Efforts will be made for a coordinated effort for enhancing security at classified hotels. Already, the police have formed a coordination committee for all classified hotels and briefed them about the security requirements and security installations to be put into operation. Special training will be given to security personnel in these hotels. Cameras put up The police have also put up 15 cameras in public places, with support from various organisations, for effective monitoring. Even though, this has been launched as a move to improve the monitoring for traffic as well as law and order issues, the police are now converting it as a potential tool in its fight against terrorism. The force is now on the look-out for sponsors for extending this to other parts of the city too. All banks in the city have been asked to beef up security at the banks as well as ATMs. Banks have also been asked to install surveillance cameras at all ATMs and major banking units. Security has also been beefed up at all important installations, public sector undertakings, tourist places and government offices. Mock drills will be conducted along with local security personnel as part of auditing the existing security mechanism. Hoardings will be put up in various parts of the city to give maximum publicity to the toll-free hotline number for passing on information about terrorism suspects. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Green Youth Movement" group.
