The inauguration of the Mahatma Ayyankali Chair, Dept. of History,

University of Kerala and National Seminar on "Mahatma Ayyankali and

Movements for Social Transformation" is proposed to be held on 11, 12

and 13 March 2009. The venue would be the Senate Hall and Senate

Chamber, University of Kerala, Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram. The

National Seminar would deliberate on a wide spectrum of related issue

ranging from the Historiography of Depressed Class Movements,

Geographical Spatiality of Untouchablity, Depressed Classes through

the Ages, Emergent Dalit Leadership and Social Transformation  Mahatma

Phule, B.R. Ambedkar, Mahatma Ayyankali, K R Narayanan and others,

Constitutional remedy and Social equality, Question of Depressed Class

Reservations, Biographical writers of the non-elite, Dalit in Post

Independent India, Contemporary History and the Dalits, Dalit and

Mainstream Politics, The Dalit as Vote Bank, Epistemology for Dalit

Liberation, The Semantics of the Dalits, etc.




The proposed National Seminar (11, 12, 13 March 2009) would be

attended by Scholars from different parts of the country. The ten

Sessions envisaged for the Seminar would be presided over by eminent

Scholars who have made a mark for themselves in this area of study.

Scholars and Teachers desirous of presenting research papers on any

one of the aspects/ themes highlighted or related issues must submit

their papers along with the abstract of not more than 300 words in

soft and hard copies to the Director. Research papers should not

exceed 4000 words. The National Seminar Papers would be published by

the Mahatma Ayyankali Chair. The papers in the said format should

reach the Director not later than 28 February 2009.
